Designing Offline-First Apps for Low-Connectivity Regions
30 July 2025 6 min read
For much of the region, assuming a stable internet connection is the wrong default for a mobile app — offline-first needs to be the starting architecture, not a feature added after the fact.
In practice that means local-first data storage, a conflict-resolution strategy for when a device reconnects and syncs changes made while offline, and interface design that clearly signals sync status to the user instead of failing silently.
Retrofitting offline support onto an app built assuming connectivity is far more expensive than designing for it from day one — we treat this as a foundational decision, not a later optimisation.
